Foundation activity

With the spring cycle now underway, I thought it would be a good idea to let everyone know what the foundation has been up to since the start of 2013. We have been fielding quite an eclectic collection of financial requests — the variety of worthy nonprofits serving Kern County is truly amazing!

Here are a few of our recent donations:

• $15,000 to Ready To Start. (Click here to learn more about this worthwhile program giving disadvantaged children an educational boost.)

•$5,680 to the Arts, Science and Technology Education Corporation of Tehachapi. This grassroots organization was formed in 2009 in response to cutbacks in Tehachapi schools. The money will go toward the purchase of digital cameras to be used in a Tehachapi High School photography class.

• $5,000 to Have a Heart Humane Society of Tehachapi to sponsor a spay and neuter clinic.

• $5,000 to a local Optimist Club.

• $3,200 to the Dream Fund for college scholarships.
